Red Hot Frying Fish

Red Hot Frying Fish 1977

56cm. X 76cm.   22in. X 30in.
BFK Rives
Edition 20

Notes

This print was made following  a two week invited visit to St. Michael’s Printshop of Memorial University in Newfoundland in 1977. The similarity in the shape of the fish and the shape of the frying pan prompted this image. Although the other Newfoundland prints are more environmental, this image evolved naturally because of earlier prints in the Unpaid Labour series.

The image of the fish was produced by inking a fish and pressing a flexible plastic sheet over it. This detailed record of scales and fins and head was transferred to a dacron screen and printed in Kingston.

The frying pan was cut from card, inked and printed. Aluminum powder was dusted into the wet ink on the print. The area where the fish and frying pan overlap is hand coloured with red Prismacolour pencil.
