This is one of two prints that were made for a miniature print competition at the Pratt Graphics Centre in New York City in 1975. it was not the type of image that was accepted. The fabric area and the curled sewing thread were etched through soft ground, and relief printed with a roller. The button Image was deeply etched and embossed when printed.

Mending, including sewing on buttons which come off clothing, is a frequent task for a housewife/mother. It is one of the countless small skills which take time, and collectively are not paid.
