Unwinding

Unwinding 1975

10cm. X 7cm.   4in. X 2.5in.
BFK Rives
Edition 10

Notes
This is one of two prints that were made for a miniature print competition at the Pratt Graphics Centre in New York City in 1975. It was not the type of print that was accepted.

The curled thread unwinding from the round bobbin was printed from an etched plate with a roller. The bobbin was off-set printed. The thread was over-printed from a small yellow inked stencil.

In the process of sewing with a machine the bobbin has to be wound from a spool and inserted into the base of the machine. The bobbin occasionally unwinds in loops when the thread is cut. Sewing is still part of unpaid labour for some housewife/mothers.
